Those class sessions will explore a number of real-life topics including understanding the problem-solving process, using conflict-resolution skills, learning effective communication skills, exercising acceptance and advocacy of others’ rights, and so much more. Additional duties such as serving as our school’s student ambassadors (escorting guests on campus, presenting information in PRIDE classes, volunteering for parent nights, etc.) can also be assigned.

In this course students, both paid and unpaid, are treated as employees and, as such, are responsible for their own actions or inactions. Just showing up for work and doing a good job is not enough to get an “A.” As in the workplace, there are penalties for not following directions or for not asking for clarification on course requirements before the due date. I believe that students who are enrolled in this program have an opportunity over students who are not in the workplace. In addition to having hands on experience in dealing with the workplace, students complete weekly assignments ending with a comprehensive portfolio. Whether the student’s path leads to college, technical training, military, or entering the civilian work force, this program and portfolio project will benefit them in years to come
*Transportation is REQUIRED.
