Grace Snell Middle School provides a culture of excellence that prepares all students to reach their maximum potential today, tomorrow and beyond.
Our Week at a Glance
Important Notes from your 8th Grade Team
Friday, November 3rd is a Digital Learning Day. Students should stay home and work on assignments from their teachers on their Chromebooks.
8TH GRADE MATH
In math this week, students will continue learning about the standard form of functions by finding the y-intercept from the standard form. Then, students will be introduced to the point-slope form of a function, specifically how to rewrite it into slope-intercept form and how to find the point-slope form of a function when given two points.
ENHANCED MATH / ALGEBRA CONNECTIONS
In enhanced math this week, students will conclude their studies on rational and irrational numbers by learning how to add, subtract, and multiply expressions involving square roots and cube roots. We will then have our Unit 4 test on Thursday.
LANGUAGE ARTS
In language arts this week, we will continue our unit on the horror genre as students deepen their understanding of how authors use certain language to intentionally scare the reader. Students will analyze the language used to compel the reader to continue with the story.
PHYSICAL SCIENCE
In science this week, students will continue studying electricity and magnetism. Students will read about the relationship between magnetism and electrical charges, design and construct electromagnets and motors.
SOCIAL STUDIES
In social studies this week, students will continue with our fourth unit, which covers the time period when the young United States of America started to expand westward across the continent. Specifically, we will study how the Creek and Cherokee Native Americans were removed from their land across Georgia.

Greetings, Comet Nation!
Parents, we cannot thank you enough for partnering with our school in educating your scholars. We are truly a village, and will need to continue collaborating and count on each other to help our 8th grade students excel at their optimal potential.
PSAT 8/9
Our 8th grade scholars took the PSAT 8/9 assessment last week. For any student who was absent or had technical difficulties which prevented them from completing the assessment, a Make-up session will be held on Monday, October 30th.
Wednesday Morning Tutorials
Does your scholar need extra support in learning a standard? Does your scholar need to retake an assessment, or make-up an assignment? Your scholar’s teachers host tutorial sessions each Wednesday morning from 8:15 AM - 8:45 AM. Please encourage your scholar to take advantage of this opportunity to get ahead or get back on track with learning!
Friday Morning Detentions & Administrative Detentions
Occasionally some of our scholars partake in actions that cause them to be redirected or issued consequences by their teachers or administrators. We want to make you aware that 8th grade teachers host Friday morning detentions from 8:15 AM - 8:45 AM. Transportation is not provided for detentions, so in the event that a scholar is assigned detention, parents are requested to provide their own transportation for morning detention.
Likewise, if a student is assigned Administrative detention, which is held on Tuesdays from 4:30 PM - 5:30 PM, parents are requested to provide transportation home for their child.
Watch this video to get a snapshot of the competencies our scholars are developing at Grace Snell Middle School now, to prepare them to reach their maximum potential today, tomorrow and beyond!

School Hours
8:55 AM - 4:00 PM
No drop-offs before 8:50 AM
Missed instructional time is detrimental to a student’s performance.
Parents are urged to make dental, medical, and other appointments before or after school hours.
If it becomes necessary for a student to check out during the day, parents must report to the desk in the front lobby to sign out the student.
Parents will be required to show picture identification in order to check out their children.
No check-outs or transportation changes shall be made after 3:30 PM.
It is the expectation that students make up missed assignments whenever they are absent from school, or check-out early.
