Georgia Habitats
Georgia has five different geographic regions that include the Blue Ridge Mountains, Appalachian Plateau, Ridge and Valley, Piedmont, and Coastal Plains. Within each of these geographic regions, one or more habitats can be found.
Geographic regions are specific to the geographical location of land …. whereas a habitat is specific to the organisms (plants, animals) and the natural environment that make up a space. Geographic regions can have one or more habitats within them. For example, the Coastal Plain geographic region contains the coast, swamp & marsh and ocean habitats.
Habitats are the natural homes where animals and plants live. Habitats provide the food, water, and shelter that an organism, or living thing, needs to survive. This includes food, water, air, protection, and shelter. Habitats in Georgia include the mountains, Piedmont, marsh/swamp, coast and Atlantic Ocean. Each habitat has distinct features and distinct plants and animals.
