James Williams
This is Mr. Williams' 17th year as the Director of Choral Activities at Dacula High School. He is a Georgia native with music degrees from Furman University and Georgia State University. Mr. Williams has over 22 years of teaching experience spending time at South Gwinnett High School and Hoffman Estates High School in suburban Chicago. While at Dacula High School, Mr. Williams was named Teacher of the Year in the 2018-2019 School year. He serves Gwinnett County Public Schools as a Lead Teacher where he assists other high school choral directors in their professional learning. Mr. Williams is beginning the first of his two-year term as GMEA District XIII Choral Chair. He is also a sought-after clinician and adjudicator in the metro Atlanta area. He is a proud member of GMEA, NafME, ACDA, and the professional men's chorus, Orpheus Men's Ensemble of Georgia where he both sings and conducts within the ensemble. Mr. Williams is married to his wife, Kim, of 21 years and is a proud father of 2 teenage daughters, a one-eyed shitzu named Marley, and a cat named Hayley.
Kimberly Maugans
Ms. Kimberly Maugans has served as both a high school and middle school director of choral activities for Gwinnett County Schools since 1986. Receiving her Bachelor of Music Education from the University of South Florida (1986), she continued to her Master of Music Education and her Specialist in Education Degrees from the University of Georgia (2004, 2006). Her choirs consistently receive superior ratings in performance and sight-reading at the Georgia Music Educators Association Large Group Performance Evaluation events. Ms. Maugans' groups have been invited to perform at the GMEA In-Service Conference and have placed in local and national competitions. Since her retirement in 2017, she continues to serve as assistant choral director at Dacula High School in Gwinnett County. Having conducted multiple honor’s choirs for local GMEA districts, she just completed serving a term on th GMEA LGPE Choral Division Standing Committee and is a current LGPE adjudicator. In August of 2021, Ms. Maugans began her pursuit of a Doctorate of Philosophy in Music Education (Ph.D) and is serving as a Teaching Assistant at the University of Georgia. In addition to her GMEA membership, Ms. Maugans has been a member of The American Choral Director’s Association and The Music Educator’s National Conference. She has extensive background in performing, directing, musical theatre, and is a worship leader and keyboardist at local churches. Ms. Maugans has two sons who are graduates of Dacula High School and its choral program.
