Welcome to the Music Technology monthly newsletter! Each month I will be sending out a sample of student work to demonstrate some of the fantastic work happening in our lab. We are offering two courses of Music Technology this semester: Introduction to Music Technology, for first-time students, and Advanced Music Technology for students who have taken the class before. You will find a description of the projects below along with samples in the left column. I hope you enjoy!

Introduction to Music Technology

Intro students created a ringtone for our first project. Something short and simple to get students familiar with the Digital Audio Workstation, Soundtrap. Please enjoy listening to some of the exemplary projects created by our students! 

Advanced Music Technology

Advanced students have been working on a harmony project in which a chord progression was provided along with two tracks with all the chord tones: one for melody and one for bass. Students then selected the notes and edited note pitch and length in the piano roll grid to create their own unique melody and bass line. Students further customized their work by selecting instrument sounds and composing their own drum beat. Check out the wonderful work created by Leon Y. and Charis A.!

Congratulations!

Congratulations to Leon Y. and Emerson G. for having their compositions selected to be showcased at the 2022 Georgia Music Educators Association Conference.  Leon's composition, Epic Gamer, was selected for the Music Technology Showcase and Emerson's composition, Siege Waltz, was selected to be performed as part of the Composition Competition Recital. The Music Technology course at Coleman Middle School is designed to develop student creativity and expression through music composition and to prepare students with the technology skills necessary for future opportunities.
