The counselors sponsor several activities designed to enhance student leadership skills. Fifth grade students may apply at the beginning of each school year to serve as Peer Leaders or School Store Volunteers. All selected leaders are trained and serve throughout their 5th grade year.
Peer Leaders serve our school in a variety of ways. They are trained to work as peer mediators, counselor helpers, tour guides, and will support our No Place For Hate program. With supervision from the counselors, they assist students with resolving minor conflicts. They participate in comprehensive training during August and September that helps them understand the nature of conflict and how to work toward peaceful resolutions. This is an excellent opportunity for students to help other students solve problems at school and learn valuable skills.
These students have one or two mornings assigned to them to serve in the School Store. The School Store sells various school supplies and snacks every morning from 7:45 – 8:05.
The student volunteers are responsible for daily store set up, sales, inventory management, and creating the daily financial report. The money earned is used to help our families in need via the Berkeley Lake Care Team and to support the School Counseling program.
