What Is a Lexile Level?

A Lexile level is a number that shows how hard a book is to read and how strong your reading skills are. It helps match you with books that are just right for you— not too easy, not too hard. Lexile is a widely used method to measure a student’s reading ability and the readability of written materials.

Lexile levels look like this: 200L, 600L, 850L, 1000L, etc.
The higher the number, the more complex the text.
Your Lexile level comes from reading tests or assessments.

Lexile Find a Book can help you build your vocabulary skills. Find a Book includes a vocabulary feature that identifies up to 10 words from a book you are reading. The vocabulary words are included along with their definitions, parts of speech, and example sentences. This information is a great jumping-off point for discussing the new words you are learning and challenging you to use them in conversations or writing.
