Let's finish strong!
It was really hard to choose the best Sphero Dance performance for Romeo & Juliet this week, but definitely this one stood out. Should it be a surprise the dance team members could make the Spheros dance as well? They also made a great song choice to represent their scene. We are including a video of their Sphero dance and their cross-curricular slide for your viewing pleasure.
This venture is one of our favorites as we push the students beyond literal interpretation of classic literature. They have to choose a song to represent what they believe is the key action or theme in their assigned scenes from Romeo & Juliet, and then program the Spheros to not only dance to the song - but to include movements that tie to math with explanation. Students also analyze the Spheros using the Universal Systems Model and practice engineering documentation and the DESIGN process. In Chemistry students also explored how different bonds in Chemistry could represent the different relationships in Romeo & Juliet. This is a great way to end the semester - tying the subjects together.
We particularly wanted to highlight Sara as our Student of the Week. She consistently performs well academically, she works great in collaborative groups and has an enthusiasm for STEM. She leads by example and balances a tough schedule with dance. We love having Sara in the EPIC program. Way to SOAR Sara!
Good luck to our Dance team this weekend as they head to their first competition! Go Hawks!
