Roles & Responsibilities

The following roles, responsibilities, and process have been established to provide clarity and guidance for students, parents, and staff when helping a student who is interested in competing in intercollegiate athletics. The following process/steps must occur in order to ensure that students meet requirements for intercollegiate athletic participation.

  1. The student and parents must have a conversation with their coach and express interest in competing in intercollegiate athletics. During this meeting, the student must convey their athletic goals/aspirations beyond high school and seek feedback from their coach on what it will take to compete at the level they desire.

  1. The student and his/her parent(s)/guardian(s) should familiarize themselves with eligibility requirements to compete in intercollegiate athletics by reviewing the FHS procedures resources provided on this website.

  1. The student and his/her parent(s)/guardian(s) should familiarize themselves with the College Board’s College Planning Checklist for Student Athletes and make sure they are aware of what is required of them.

  1. The student and parent must fill out the Collegiate Athletics Interest Form Memorandum of Understanding. This outlines the the basic expectations of the NCAA eligibility process that Fayetteville Public Schools will follow.

  1. The student must create a free account with the NCAA Eligibility Center or the NAIA Eligibility Center. Students interested in the NCAA competition level, should use the guide HERE before setting up their account. Additionally, it will be important for students/parents to view the video Registering with the NCAA Eligibility Center prior to paying any registration fees. PLEASE NOTE: Students should use their g.fayar.net student email address when registering for the NCAA or NAIA Eligibility Center.

  2. The student will request a transcript by logging into Naviance and making a request for a copy of a transcript to be shared with NCAA.

  1. The student IS REQUIRED to schedule an appointment with his/her counselor and coach at the end of each semester of their high school career and keep them apprised of any changes in interest as it pertains to participating in intercollegiate athletics. The student’s counselor will conduct a transcript audit to ensure that students are enrolled in the appropriate NCAA approved courses.

  2. The student will confer with their counselor/coach if they fail core academic classes that may jeopardize their eligibility with the NCAA Eligibility Center.

  3. The student’s counselor will assist the student/parent(s) in navigating the NCAA Eligibility Center and provide information to make sure complete information is provided to the NCAA.
