About the Team

Who We Are:

Robert Lorenzo, Mentor I am excited to bring FIRST Tech Challenge to our school and students. I have been a mentor for FRC and FTC teams in the past, and I have seen how student participation can change their lives. Starting out with a group of 8 freshmen and one senior was a little intimidating in 2016, but we have grown tremendously and continue to develop our skills. I am extremely proud of the progress the team has made this year.

Matthew B., I’m a Sophomore at West Caldwell Tech. This is my second year in robotics and since the first meeting, I have been incredibly passionate about my team. Since joining the team I have learned a lot of useful subjects. I hope to continue robotics for the rest of my high school career.

Angie C., I am a freshman in high school. I joined robotics because it is a nice experience and there are more opportunities and I love building and coding. My role is everything in the class because I like to do everything!

Dedan D., I am a freshman in high school. The reason why I like robotics is that it is fascinating to see something be built and see it functioning on its own or with a drive team. I personally enjoy this because we all cooperate as a team and build in an efficient robot. My role is a builder so I assist other builders or do what I need myself. It's building has always been a hobby of mine. Robotics allows me to share my ideas about building and creating with everyone else who likes to build. My goal for robotics is to do the best I can at contributing towards the robot

Joanna D., Driving/Scouting I am one of the drivers, social media editors, and scouters on the team. I have had a great time in robotics working with my teammates and coach. I have learned the importance of team work this year, and hope to continue improving my skills.

Sabrina F: I am a freshman. The reason that I joined the robotics club is that a good friend of mine told me is about the robotics club and she got me really interested in the engineering program. I was really excited that I was a part of the club. The goal for the robotics is to make the robot as best as possible. My role in the robotics club is to social.

Hegel G., I am a freshmen at West Caldwell School of Technology. My role on the robotics team is building. I help build things for the robot that will later be used in competitions. I joined the team because a friend told me about the different things that I could gain from this. I really hope that I could stay in the robotics program until I graduate high school and I could use these skills to go to a good college and get a good job.

Darren H., Mechanical/Drive Team Hello, my name is Darren Hernandez and I go to West Caldwell Tech. I joined robotics this year in order to experience the fun of working with an actual robot. I have participated in robotics ever since I was in the 6th grade, but was never in a serious competition. I hope to learn a lot of lessons in engineering and programing and use that to work towards a career in engineering.

Marquis H., I am A Freshman at West Caldwell Tech. I became interested in Robotics when I saw a video on the schools website. I knew then that I wanted to join the Robotics club to learn about coding. Learning coding can help me with robotics and gaming. My role in Robotics is to learn coding by controlling the Lego robot. My goal is to learn how to make my own robot that can teach toddlers skills such as counting and learning the alphabet.

Aryana J,- I’m a freshman at West Caldwell Tech. This is my first year in robotics and my first time dealing with coding and building a robot. At first, I was hoping to join robotics to advance my knowledge in STEM. but later on, I learned how to work as a team. Soon I want to experience the highest competition Worlds and hope we will make it there.

Justin J., Mechanical/Coach/Programming I'm the coach of Beaks n Bolts. Since our first meeting robotics has been my passion. We broke up into small groups and started to learn the components. I started to see each piece as not being fixed in its use, but rather a blank canvas with which to create something totally new and different.

Carlos K., I am in my sophomore year at Essex County Vo-Tech in West Caldwell. Robotics gives me great satisfaction and feelings of accomplishment from creating robots. The challenges of building something piece by piece while learning and incorporating coding is quite simply, awesome. This gives me the confidence to know that anything in life is achievable. Winning is our ultimate goal. I look forward to all upcoming competitions and hope we can place in statewide, national and even international meets. I enjoy contributing to and supporting my teammates. This is why I am a member of the Beaks ‘n Bolts robotics club.

Jayden M., This is my first year in robotics as I am a freshman. I like robotics because of coding, building, and I like talking about robots. My role is talking to teams and seeing what their robot can do and also find ideas for the robot. My goal is to get to the championship.

Candida M., Programming/Mechanical/Scouting I am a part of the Beaks n Bolts robotics team at West Caldwell Tech. I aid in programming, building the robot, and scouting during competitions. Robotics has always been a passion to me and I hope to learn myriad lessons from being a part of the team, which I can take along with me in the future.

Francisco P., I'm a Sophomore at West Caldwell Tech. This is my second year in robotics. I am one of the many builders on the team. I hope to learn new sets of skills from my peers and mentors. I hope this club helps me in the long run for my STEM-based career

Cyrard P.-

Jancarlos R., I am a freshman at West Caldwell Tech. The reason I joined robotics is it piqued my interest and seems fun. I've seen videos on robotics on the website and it caught my eye out of all the careers. My goal is to learn how to program and work with programmers on the team to improve my skills.

Satiah T.- During my short time in the Robotics Club, I learned many potentially helpful life-building skills such as open-mindedness to other’s new ideas, to take control and that it is important to listen to directions and most importantly, I’ve made a bond with my Robotics teacher and teammates to achieve and succeed, together.

Isabella T., I am a freshman and a driver/ builder for Beaks and Bolts. I joined Robotics as it shows teamwork, and helps me improve my problem-solving skills. My goals for Robotics is to get to rely on others and to understand more about robotics.

Satiah Thompson- During my minimum time in the Robotics Club, I learned many potentially helpful life-building skills such as open-mindedness to other’s new ideas, to take control and that it is important to listen to directions and most importantly, I’ve made a bond with my Robotics teacher and teammates to achieve and succeed, together.

Solomon W., I am a freshman in high school. I joined robotics as it would better my chances in the STEM field as this is a gateway to STEM careers. My goal is to contribute to the team as much as I can.
