Earn Credit through Placement EXAM
If you identify as a bilingual Spanish speaker, a heritage learner, have lived in a Spanish-Speaking country, completed mission work in a Spanish-Speaking country or have many friends that code-switch and speak Spanish, you should enroll in SA 314 Spanish Heritage Language & Culture. Please take the survey linked in the course if you are unsure.
Any courses you took in high school and, importantly, any time spent with friends and family listening and socializing in another language changes the way you approach learning and is an important factor for determining your starting point in our program.
Even if you think you don't know any Spanish, you might know more than you realize.
When you place into a higher level of Spanish, you are concurrently enrolled in all the lower levels of Spanish in out "TP" or "Test Placement" sections. For example, if you took three years of high school Spanish, you might score between a 285 and a 350 on our test. This means you should enroll in SA 313 for 5 credits. You will also be concurrently enrolled in SA 210TP and SA110TP.
When you complete SA 313 and earn a letter grade, you will earn a Pass for both SA 110 and SA 210. At the end of the semester, you will have earned 15 credits towards degree completion. This also will mean that you only need three more Spanish courses to complete the minor and work on becoming a functionally fluent bilingual professional!
