Virtual UTokyo Discord is a UTokyo-student-only community set up by a UTokyo student. The UTokyo authorities have nothing to do with it. Started on Jan 31, 2021. About 600 students have joined this discord server as of May 13, 2021. In VUTD, there are students of different majors, from freshmen to students in the doctor's courses.
We held Virtual Entrance Ceremony prepared by volunteers in VUTD on April 18, 2021.
It is such a shame that we cannot go to the campuses due to COVID-19, so why don't we experience campus life virtually by naming the channel with place names related to UTokyo!
"ソ連領(lit. Soviet Territory)" "ロシア領(lit. Russian Territory)" etc. are all-purpose channels. We wish to provide places to talk freely with other unknown UTokyo students. Unlike Twitter, there are no timelines, so you can talk whatever and whenever you want.
Meanwhile, channels like "数理病棟(lit. Mathematical Ward)" "エムエムランド(MMLand, name of an arcade existed in Shimokitazawa)" etc. allow you to make friends with someone having common background or knowledge.
We want various students to come and join us, so we value the "easiness".

You don’t have to use Japanese. Especially in "ソ連領", "ロシア領", and "シベリア領", you can talk about anything you want, there are no strict rules, and it doesn't matter if you get something wrong, so don't be afraid to talk freely!
We hope that VUTD triggers a lot of different projects! In fact, we are glad that many participants are doing seminars. We hope that someone find their research target or something through discussions in VUTD.
