This workshop , held at the Komaba Campus of the University of Tokyo, offers three-day intensive lecture series on black holes, gravitational waves, and scattering amplitudes. It is intended for researchers interested in recent advances in black hole perturbation theory and its interplay with on-shell methods developed in the scattering amplitude program.

Naritaka Oshita (YITP, Hakubi Center, Kyoto U) “Black Hole Perturbation Theory”
Gravitational waves emitted by a ringing black hole provide a unique opportunity to test gravity in the strong-field regime. This lecture series will introduce black hole perturbation theory as a powerful framework for modeling such signals. Key topics include the excitation of quasinormal modes, the black hole S-matrix or greybody factors, and their role in constructing accurate gravitational-wave templates. If time permits, I will also discuss recent developments, open problems, and future possible directions in the study of black hole ringdown.
Katsuki Aoki (YITP, Kyoto U) “To Black Hole from Scattering Amplitude"
Recently, there has been growing attention to applying quantum field-theoretic techniques, such as scattering amplitudes, to problems of classical gravity. It has led to the highest precision calculations of gravitational two-body systems, refined connections between classical and quantum physics, and a novel perspective on black holes. In this lecture, I will start with some basics of scattering amplitudes and their relation to classical observables. I will then discuss how the scattering amplitudes provide new insights into black holes, especially their spin and horizon.
