Grading Guidelines
I believe that your grade should reflect the level of mastery of the content of this course. I will give grades aligned to your mastery of the Texas Essential Knowledge and Skills (TEKS) for this course. A copy of the TEKS for Aquatic Science is available HERE.
Grading Categories and Weights
60% Major Summative Evaluations - like a traditional test
40% Minor Summative Evaluations - like traditional quizes.
Make up Work, Retakes, and The Gradebook
Failure to complete work on time will affect my overall view of your work ethic and commitment to responsibility. Communication with me will make me think the world of you. If you know you'll miss, talk to me in advance and we will work out a plan to make up. If you're sick, email if you want to get what you need. Miss or need to retake something?...let's talk!
Make up work can be done for all work and for full credit BUT Retakes are reserved only for MAJOR SUMMATIVE EVALUATIONS per district guidelines (with the exception of Academic Dishonesty).
Retakes are available only if your grade on the first attempt is below 90%. You cannot receive a grade above 90% on a retake. You only get one retake. I reserve the right to disallow retakes if your formative and minor assessments leading up to that Major are missing or incomplete. Please turn in (or communicate with me) BEFORE the first attempt at a test if you are missing formative or summative evaluations.
Assignments marked missing (MSG) in the grade book are calculated as zeros, so it is important that you turn your work in on time to avoid the appearance of low grades in the grade book. We will discuss more grading policies as needs arise.
