Math Specialist

Mrs. Mendoza

Hello friends! I was born in Mexico, but I have lived in both countries on and off my whole life. My last international move was in 2004 when I first came to Tomás Rivera Elementary. I have been here 14 years and absolutely love working here! I will be working with teachers, students, and parents this year on any math need, which makes me very happy because I just love math! My favorite things in the world are my family, traveling, and hearing from former students.

District Coach

Mrs. Thompson

Howdy! My name is Courtney Thompson and I serve Rivera and Hodge Elementary as their District Instructional Coach. I am a graduate of Texas A&M University in College Station and received my Masters Degree in Educational Leadership from University of Texas - Arlington. I have worked for Denton ISD for the past twelve years and I am so thankful for this journey. Partnering with campuses and teachers has been the most inspiring and rewarding path on my journey, thus far. In my free time, I love spending time with my husband and two daughters. We enjoy boat riding on the lake, fish fry's and camping.

It's going to be an amazing year filled with learning surrounded by love!

Reading Recovery

Dr. Loewenstein

In the words of one of my role models, Oprah Winfrey. “Reading is a way for me to expand my mind, open my eyes, and fill up my heart.” In my twenty-two years within public education, I’ve had the pleasure of working with wonderful students and extremely committed teachers in the area of literacy. I’ve dedicated my life to improving the quality of education for all learners and finding and implementing more effective ways to support culturally and linguistically diverse students.

I am an advocate for young children and I love to see them succeed and to reach their goals. As a Reading Recovery teacher, I seek to provide effective individualized instruction for first graders who need extra support in becoming proficient readers and writers. However, I also hope that they gain a love for both reading and writing and that they use these understandings to develop their own voices as well as to appreciate the voices of others. Further information about reading, Reading Recovery and myself can be found by clicking on the google link below. It's going to be an AMAZING year. :)
