In Class Learning:

We’re diving into an exciting new unit in art — Form & Emphasis! Over the next five weeks, students will explore how artists use form to create three-dimensional artwork and emphasis to make certain parts of their artwork stand out. These concepts help students understand how to draw the viewer’s attention and bring their creations to life! 

Form: Students will explore how shapes become forms — turning circles into spheres, squares into cubes, and ideas into sculptures!

Emphasis: Students will learn how to use color, size, and placement to draw attention to the most important parts of their artwork.

Art in Action: We’ll study famous artists who use these techniques and apply what we learn through drawing, painting, and sculpting activities.

By the end of the unit, students will be able to:

1.  Identify and create 3D forms using different materials.

2.  Use emphasis intentionally in their art to communicate ideas.

3.  Discuss how artists use these techniques in real-world examples.

How You Can Support at Home:

- Ask your child what form they’re working on in class.
- Encourage creativity by providing simple materials (recycled boxes, modeling clay, etc.).
- Visit a local art museum or sculpture garden if possible — talk about what stands out in each piece!
