The 5 Pillars
SCHOLARSHIP
Students must have a 93 or higher combined average on the 7th or 8th grade first semester report card to meet scholastic criteria.
All members of NJHS must maintain a 90 or higher average.
SERVICE
“Service before self” is the motto of NJHS.
Students should enjoy helping their school and community, without compensation. The minimum service requirement is 10 each semester as an NJHS member.
Some service hours MUST directly benefit Rodriguez Middle School or the Braswell High School Zone.
Applicants should be prepared to commit time both during and after school hours.
LEADERSHIP
Leadership is more than a position or title; it means embodying the spirit of initiative, innovation, and influence. It's about inspiring peers through actions, nurturing a collaborative environment, and championing positive change. True leaders exemplify dignity and take ownership and responsibility for actions.
Having an official title is not required for Everyday Leadership. Everyday Leadership means being an agent, someone who takes action and responsibility.
Some examples of leadership include:
Member of Student Council
Leader on a sports team or cheer/dance squad
Participating in UIL extracurricular activities such as band, UIL Academics, Orchestra
Being on a committee or in a club
CHARACTER
A student of good character is cooperative, demonstrates high standards of honesty and reliability, shows courtesy, concern, and respect for others, and generally maintains a clean disciplinary record. Students at Rodriguez Middle School model the Viper Core Values: Collaboration, Cooperation, Integrity, Leadership, and Responsibility.
Applicants may NOT have any discipline referrals to the administration team resulting in IN or OUT of school suspensions. Excessive detentions and tardies may also have an impact.
CITIZENSHIP
Students who demonstrate citizenship understand the importance of civic engagement, have a high regard for freedom and justice, respect the U.S. form of government, and respect the law for all citizens at the local, state, and federal levels. Students must demonstrate mature participation and responsibility in activities such as community organizations or school clubs.
Students also model respect for campus and district rules and policies.
