Service is an important part of Student Council! It brings us together and provides us with opportunities to help our community.
Student Council members are required to have a total of 20 service hours by the end of the school year. Part of these hours can be earned through Student Council service projects, but the other hours can be earned through volunteer opportunities in our community!
That's up to you! At the beginning of the year, we'll be taking a poll of what kinds of service we'd like to do! So think about this: what issues are facing the school or community that you're passionate about? You might be passionate about homelessness and want to help organize a food drive! Or maybe you're passionate about animals and want to make sock cat toys for the local animal shelter! There are SO MANY OPTIONS :)
If there's something you're passionate about, come talk about your idea to one of the sponsors!
Luckily, there are lots of different ways you can earn service hours inside AND outside of school. Here are some different ways to earn service hours:
volunteer to help a teacher out before or after school
volunteer to help out in the library
participate in a community cleanup
Keep Denton Beautiful often has cleanups you can help out at!
You can also go with your family or your friends out to your favorite park and pick up trash!
volunteer at your local soup kitchen
check out this link for a list of soup kitchens in the Denton area
Our Daily Bread is a food pantry that isn't listed above, but often has volunteer opportunities!
help out at Habitat for Humanity
visit the Do Something website and find a volunteer opportunity that resonates with you
If you're really stumped, come talk to Ms. RJ or Ms. Crawford and we can help you out!
