The Positive Academic Behavior Support (PABS) classroom is based on positive behavior supports designed to meet the individualized needs of students who require intensive behavioral interventions and emotional supports as part of an Individualized Education Program (IEP), as determined by the Admission, Review, Dismissal (ARD) committee. It is a centralized class available at designated campuses at each level (elementary, middle, and high school). Support provided through the PABS personnell is considered by the ARD committee when the behavioral and emotional needs of the student interfere with the student’s learning and/or the learning of others.
The PABS program provides a highly structured learning environment based upon a leveled system of intensive behavioral, social, and emotional supports and interventions. Instruction and interventions are individualized to meet the unique needs of students by reducing target behaviors and teaching prosocial replacement behaviors identified in the Behavior Intervention Plan (BIP), Functional, and Behavioral goals.
