Ms. Irby is entering her second year as the Head Band Director at Navo Middle School. Prior to coming to Denton ISD, she spent the past seven years teaching at both the high school and middle school levels. During that time, she led multiple ensembles to UIL competitions, consistently earning First Division ratings.
She is an active member of several professional organizations, including Tau Beta Sigma, Pi Kappa Lambda, Texas Music Educators Association, and Texas Bandmasters Association.
Ms. Irby will be teaching all beginning woodwind classes, directing the Honors Band, and co-teaching the Symphonic Band and Concert. Her passion for music education is deeply rooted in her own experiences as a student. Some of her favorite memories come from her time in band throughout middle school, high school, and college. She has performed in the Macy’s Thanksgiving Day Parade, on the prestigious stage of Carnegie Hall, and has earned medals at Bands of America Super Regionals, Grand Nationals, and the Texas State Marching Contest.
Ms. Irby currently lives in Frisco, TX with her cat, Salem. In her free time, she enjoys musical theatre, painting, and watching scary movies.

Mr. Carnley's third year at Navo MS as the assistant band director. Mr. Carnley is originally from Killeen TX and is a 2012 graduate from the University of North Texas. After student teaching in Denton ISD, Mr. Carnley taught in Ponder ISD first as the assistant band and choir director, and eventually head band director for the high school program. From 2019-2024, Mr. Carnley was the assistant band director at Terry Middle School in Mesquite ISD. Mr. C and his wife, Shannon, are excited to be back in the Denton area where many of their friends live. In his free time, Mr. C enjoys playing games of all varieties (video, board, and card) and skateboarding when weather and age permit!
