Students in Intrada Orchestra are in 6th grade and new to orchestra. Students in Intrada orchestra do not need any prior orchestra or instrumental experience. Students will learn position and technique, note reading, and performance skills on Violin, Viola, Cello, or Bass.
Prelude: prey-lood . Noun. An introductory performance, action, or event.
Students in Prelude Orchestra should begin the year with at least one year of playing experience. Students in Prelude Orchestra should be able to play the notes of the D major Scale, F natural, and C natural. Students should be able to play a variety of songs with good posture and a good bow hold and produce a characteristic sound for the particular instrument you play with a beautiful tone and good intonation.
Camerata: kam-er-ah-ta. Noun. A small chamber orchestra .
Students in Camerata Orchestra should be in 7th or 8th grade. Students in Camerata Orchestra will work to be able to play all five finger patterns in tune on all four strings. Students will be able to play a variety of songs with good posture and a good bow hold and produce a characteristic sound for the particular instrument you play with a beautiful tone and good intonation. Students will learn to match pitches within the section, perform with solid left and right hand positions which will allow the command of more advanced bow technique (smooth legato, staccato, etc), sight-read in unison any music up to and including grade .5, with the ability to master music including at least grade .5-2.
Stringendo: strin-jen-doh . Adjective. Performed with increasing speed.
Students in Stringendo Orchestra should be in 7th or 8th grade and begin the year with previous orchestra experience and must audition or have a teacher recommendation to be placed in this level orchestra. Students in Stringendo Orchestra should be able to play all five finger patterns in tune on all four strings. Students should be able to play a variety of songs with good posture and a good bow hold and produce a characteristic sound for the particular instrument you play with a beautiful tone and good intonation. Students should be able to match pitches within the section, perform with solid left and right hand positions which will allow the command of more advanced bow technique (smooth legato, staccato, etc), sight-read with confidence any music up to and including grade .5, with the ability to master music including at least grade 1-2.
Vivace: vi-vah-chey . Adjective. Played in a lively and brisk manner.
Students in Vivace Orchestra should begin the year with previous orchestra experience and must audition or have a teacher recommendation to be placed in this higher-level orchestra. Students in Vivace Orchestra should be able to play all five finger patterns in tune on all four strings, and should be shifting or ready to begin shifting into higher positions. Students should be able to play a variety of songs with good posture and a good bow hold and produce a characteristic sound for the particular instrument you play with a beautiful sustained tone, musicality, and excellent intonation. Students should be able to match pitches within the section, perform with solid left and right hand positions which will allow the command of advanced bow technique (spiccato, smooth legato, marcato, staccato, etc), be able to perform using vibrato or ready to begin learning vibrato, sight-read with confidence and musicality any music up to and including grade 1, with the ability to master music including at least grade 2-3.
