8-1 ELAR
Welcome to Burnett's 8-1 ELAR site!
In this course, we will explore journalistic writing, literary nonfiction, nonfiction reading, fiction analysis, position papers, dystopian literature, and research skills. We will apply the workshop model in our learning experience.
The sequence of units will be:
- Q1: Literary Nonfiction (reading unit)
- Q1: Investigative Journalism (writing unit)
- Q2: Contemporary Fiction (reading unit)
- Q2: Position Papers (writing unit)
- Q3: Dystopian Fiction (reading unit)
- Q3: Literary Essay (writing unit)
- Q4: Test Prep (reading unit)
- Q4: Research Skills (writing unit)

About Ms. B
She is a proud former Crownover Cowboy and is so excited to be back on home turf. Ms. Burnett is a graduate of Denton ISD (Go Wildcats!) and Tarleton State University (Go Texans! Bleed purple!). She is a certified English Language Arts, Reading, and Social Studies teacher. She loves to read, travel, craft, watch movies, and spend time with friends and family. Outside of school, she can most likely be spotted at a Denton coffee shop or her parents farm in Decatur. Most importantly-she is thrilled to be able to spend this year with you and her main goal is for you to feel confident and competent in any adventure you choose once you leave her classroom!
