Hello! My name is Alyson Powell and I am so excited to begin my eighth year at Adkins!
A little about me...I grew up in Lubbock, Texas and graduated from UNT. I knew when I was a little girl that I wanted to be a teacher when I grew up, so I got my degree in Interdisciplinary Studies and here I am! I started my career in Special Education as an Inclusion/Resource teacher at Hodge Elementary in Denton. After that, I taught first and second grade down the road at Blanton, fourth grade and AFS at Adkins, and now I am back where it all started in inclusion. This will be my second year in inclusion at Adkins.
When I am not teaching, I love to travel! I have been to all 50 states, but I'm not sure which is my favorite. I have great family memories in Tennessee and New Mexico, but Alaska is beautiful, and you can't beat the coast of Maine! Some of my favorite cities to visit are Boston, New Orleans, and Charleston, S.C. I love history, so I like to see places that have a lot of stories to tell. The furthest I have traveled is to the coast of Kenya where I rode a camel on the beach of the Indian Ocean. I also love to read. My favorite things to read are biographies, memoirs, and historical fiction. I was a huge Harry Potter fan back in the day, so I can definitely talk to you about that.
I live in Highland Village with my husband, son, and our dog, Teddy. He's a lab and he loves to swim!
We are going to have a great year together!
