The first fun fact you should know about me: I LOVE to travel. This was not something I realized until I was almost through with my undergraduate coursework. Up until the summer before my senior year, I had never been out of the country and most definitely never been on a plane. I grew up in a small town in central Texas and all my family was local, so we always stayed around. However, I received the wonderful opportunity to study abroad in China the summer before my senior year of college and I took it! We had a wonderful donor that paid for our trip, and this opened up so many doors of growth for me. While in China, we were given the opportunity to work closely with a child care facility that focused on supporting orphaned children with additional needs. Using the intervention technique TBRI (Trust-Based Relational Intervention) founded by the Karyn Purvis Institute of Child Development at TCU, we were able to witness slow and consistent positive changes within the staff and the children.
After I graduated from TCU with my BS in Psychology (minor in Child Development), I moved to Louisville, Kentucky to begin my teaching career as a Special Education Self-Contained teacher in a middle school. I did this simultaneously with earning my Master's of Art in Teaching: Learning and Behavior Disorders from Spalding University.
The day after my Master's graduation, I drove 15 hours to move back to the great state of Texas and start my journey at Sam Houston. I have thoroughly enjoyed every moment at Sam Houston and feel this will be my home for many years to come.
