Welcome to Biology.  I am looking forward to working with you this year.  I have always enjoyed science, and I can't wait to share the love of learning about the natural world with my classes.  In order for this to be the most successful year possible, we will need to all work together to ensure learning.  This work will include us communicating with each other, coming to class prepared, being engaged in our learning and most importantly having a positive attitude about our education.  I have grand plans this year to learn a lot from each of you, as well as helping each of you learn a lot from me at the same time.

I believe that the goal of education is not the learning of random facts and information; instead, it is developing a skill set that enables individuals to know how to find information and then determine how best they can put that information to use.

Email and phone calls are a great way to communicate with me, but please understand that my focus during the instructional day is the learning taking place in my class.  I will let phone calls go to voicemail and will return calls and emails after the instructional day.

Class Syllabus

One way I share learning that is taking place in class is through my classroom Twitter page which can be found as:

 @Spalding_Bio

My Twitter page is more focused on celebrating the lessons, activities and learning that is taking place in class and throughout our Ryan High School Science Department instead of being used as an information source, but it is still a great way to see some of what your child is engaged in while at Ryan.
