Classroom Management

In order to guarantee your child and all the students in our classrooms the learning environment they deserve, we choose to focus on the positive ways that students can achieve personal and academic goals through verbal and motivational reinforcement. Our class guidelines are:

Be respectful.

Follow directions the first time they are given.

Keep hands and feet to self.

Listen when your teacher and others are talking

Stay on task during all work times.

We will be giving choices in our classrooms. For the children who do not make good choices, we will work with each situation as it arises on an individual basis. If a student is having difficulty following the set guidelines, the teacher will:

Ask questions to promote thinking and responsibility.

Encourage students to come up with solutions to problems.

Offer students choices within limits.

Set clear expectations for student behavior.

Model problem solving skills.

Apply consequences that best fit the problems of the individual student. Possible consequences could include changed seating, time–out, loss of recess, loss of a special activity, a written behavior plan, or a visit to the office.

All children will be encouraged to problem solve on their own with peers and to work as a team. A behavior calendar will be sent home daily to be signed by a parent and returned the next school day.

Thank you in advance for your support and your reinforcements at home. The best thing we can give these wonderful children is consistency and support between us.

School Reminders

School begins at 7:40. It is VERY important that children arrive at school on time so that they are not rushed or feel left behind. Children may enter the room at the 7:30 bell. Early arrivers must wait in the cafeteria. As you know eating breakfast is essential to helping your child learn and function well in the classroom. Children may buy breakfast in the cafeteria when they arrive. However, they must arrive before 7:30 to be served.

Second grade will dismiss at 3:05. Buses and daycare vans will begin loading at that time. Car riders will go to the cafeteria and be seated until their car tag number is called. If your child has a change in transportation, PLEASE send a note or call the office before 2:00. Children without notes or phone messages stating a change in transportation will be sent home their usual way.

Attendance is the key to helping your child achieve. If your child is sick, please call the school at 940-369-1800 as soon as possible. When they return to school, they need to bring a written note explaining the reason for the absence so that we can excuse the absence. Excessive tardies will also be addressed.

You are welcome to eat lunch with your child at anytime. Please make sure that you sign in at the office when you visit the school. Students may bring lunch money on a daily basis or you may put money on their lunch account online. If you choose to send money to school with your child, please send it in an envelope labeled with their name and grade level. If someone other than a parent is eating with your child please send a note stating who will be coming.

PARENT VOLUNTEERS are a tremendous help at Hawk. Please let me know if you are interested in helping around the school or in the classroom. I would also LOVE for every family to join the P.T.A. All money goes toward our school, and helping our children.

Visitors are required to check in at the office before coming to the classroom during the day. If you need to take your child before the regular release time, you must get a pass from the office. This is a school policy.

Whenever your child has a birthday, you may send a treat on that day if you would like. I will serve the treats at the end of the day. Birthday invitations will only be handed out if the entire class is invited to the party.

We will have three class parties this year: Winter, Valentine’s, and End of the Year.
