Students Behavior:
Our school follow our LAUNCH expectations! I will award punches on a punch card for students showing these expectations consistently in the classroom.
We will also be implementing a House System for our entire student body- stay tuned for more information to come!
Important Information for 2nd Grade Parents:
Daily Folders:
Your child will bring home a folder each day. I will typically send home completed work from the week on Fridays and communication or other items as they arise. Please check your child’s folder each night.
Homework:
Your child will have reading to complete every night for homework. Once we begin Guided Reading, they will be bringing home a Guided Reading bag each night. They need to practice reading the books in the bag and the Snap Word list provided. They will earn stickers and a prize upon learning all the words in their booklet.
Personal Belongings:
Please label all your child’s backpacks, lunch boxes, and jackets. These are all commonly misplaced items at school, and with a name tag they can easily be returned to their owners.
Dress Code:
Please follow the district guidelines for appropriate school dress. Students are required to wear tennis shoes on the day they attend PE, Monday and Wednesday. Spirit days are every Friday. Show your school spirit by dressing your child in their Reeves Rocket t-shirt.
Medication:
Please follow the student handbook procedures if your child requires medication on a regular basis during the school year. Please do not put ANY medication in your child’s backpack to keep in the classroom.
Absences:
Your child’s presence is very important in our classroom. If for some reason your child is going to be absent, please fill out the email that is sent from Denton ISD after your child is counted absent at school. The link that is sent will require a note from you or a doctor to excuse their absence. You can also send me a message to let me know that they will be absent, but that will not count as their excuse note for the district.
Lunch:
Your child may bring lunch or purchase a lunch from the cafeteria. You may add money to your child’s account by sending it in a labeled envelope or baggie or by creating an account with School Café at www.schoolcafe.com
Transportation:
You must notify the office if your child will go home a different way than they usually do. Please do not send a verbal message through your child about these changes. Your child will not be released from the school unit these changes are confirmed. If you have any other questions regarding transportation, please refer to the “Parent Handbook.”
Birthdays:
Birthdays are a very special occasion in our classroom. If you would like send snacks to help us celebrate your child’s special day, please notify me in advance. These snacks will need to be individually wrapped for each student. Please note that it is against school policy to send out birthday party invitations unless everyone in the class (or all boys/all girls.)
Volunteers:
Parent volunteers are a vital part of our classroom. Please let me know if you are interested in becoming a volunteer. Everyone can help in their own way to make our classroom even more successful this school year.
PTA:
Reeves is currently building a very active PTA. I strongly encourage you to not only become a member but get involved in the fun activities and events they have planned for this year.
I really appreciate you talking the time to read through this information about your child’s school year. I am looking forward to an amazing year of learning and fun!
Thank you so much,
Sydney Tarvin
