Capturing Kids' Hearts
Capturing Kids' Hearts is a program that Cross Oaks began using in 2017-2018. It features several key components.
Teachers and students must have a positive relationship built on respect. To foster this relationship we do the following the things on a daily basis:
- Good things- students have the opportunity to share about the good things that is happening in their lives.
- Launch- the teacher leaves the students with a motivational message that is designed to help guide them through the next part of their day.
- Maintain the social contract- the students and teacher together come up with the expectations for the behavior in the classroom. How will we treat each other and how will we react when there is a conflict.
- Focus on choice: When students are not following the social contract, the teacher follows up with a standard set of questions that redirect the student to realize the choice he or she is making.
