Multi Step Problems

Multi-step problems have more than 1 step, just like a staircase. You need to keep taking steps until you get the answer.

Step 1: Read the problem, clarify what you understand, and what you are being asked to solve.

Step 2: What is the first thing you need to figure out?

Step 3: What is the next thing you need to figure out?

Step 4: Are you finished? Make sure you answered the question that was asked.

This is a checklist that can be used when solving word problems: 

Understand the Question

• Read the whole problem

• Read one sentence at a time

• Underline the Question: Make sure you understand what you are supposed to do

• Circle the information you need

Have a Plan

• Draw a picture / Strip Diagram

• Write a Number Sentence

• Choose a strategy (Number line / Base 10 / Expanded Form)

Problem Solve

• Show your work

• Label your answer

Check Your Work

• Re-read the question

• Does your answer make sense?

Problemas de varios pasos

Los problemas de varios pasos tienen más de un paso, así como una escalera. Necesitas seguir hasta encontrar la prespuesta.

Paso 1: lee el problema, asegúrate de entenderlo y saber qué es lo que te están preguntando.

Paso 2: ¿Qué es la primera cosa que necesitas averiguar?

Paso 3: ¿Cuál es la siguiente cosa que necesitas averiguar?

Paso 4: ¿Ya  acabaste? Asegúrate de responder la pregunta que te hicieron.

Esta es una lista que te puede ayudar cuando estés resolviendo problemas de matemáticas:

Entiende la pregunta

• Lee todo el problema

• Lee una oración a la vez

• Subraya la pregunta para entender lo que tienes que hacer

• Dibuja un círculo alrededor de la información importante

Haz un plan

• Haz un dibujo o diagrama

• Escribe la ecuación

• Elije una estrategia: (Línea numérica / Base 10 / Forma Expandida)

Soluciona el problema

• Muestra tu trabajo

• Marca tu respuesta

Revisa tu trabajo

• Vuelve a leer la pregunta

• ¿Tiene sentido tu respuesta?
