My discipline philosophy and classroom management is based on CHAMPS: A Proactive and Positive Approach to Classroom Management.
Within this approach, the focus is on prevention and on teaching expectations to students. I will make every effort to structure for success by creating meaningful activities with frequent variety to engage student interest.
My goal is to teach students how to behave responsibly in each major activity and transition. There is where CHAMPS comes in. CHAMPS stands for Conversation, Help, Activity, Movement, Participation, and Success. In kindergarten we have made some adaptations in order to make it developmentally appropriate for our students. We will focus on three of the CHAMPS components Movement, Activity, and Conversation.
When students are meeting the CHAMPS expectations, I will let them know that they are doing a good job by using positive reinforcements.
When students misbehave, I will try to correct the mistake by telling the student that behavior is unacceptable. I will then give the student a chance to do it the right way. If the misbehavior continues, I may impose consequences. If the problem occurs more than a few times, the teacher will contact you so that both the parent and teacher can work as partners to help your child behave responsibly and experience success in the classroom.
By working together, families and teachers can communicate high expectations and ensure a successful experience for all students.
We have 4 basic rules:
1. Listen when your teacher is talking.
2. Follow directions.
3. Respect others, respect yourself, respect your school.
4. Be safe, be honest.
