Principles of Health Science Class overview
Welcome students! This is the introductory course for students interested in pursuing a career in healthcare. It will give you an overview of career pathways including therapeutic, diagnostic, and support services, as well as health informatics and biotechnical research and development. There is heavy emphasis on professional conduct, ethics, communication, human growth and development, and anatomy and physiology, which includes the study of medical terminology. You will also learn some basic skills used in healthcare such as taking vital signs, hands-only CPR, and safe patient care.
Medical Terminology Class Overview
The Medical Terminology course is designed to introduce students to the structure of medical terms, including prefixes, suffixes, word roots, singular and plural forms, and medical abbreviations. The course allows students to achieve comprehension of medical vocabulary appropriate to medical procedures, human anatomy and physiology, and pathophysiology.
To pursue a career in the health science industry, students should learn to reason, think critically, make decisions, solve problems, and communicate effectively. Students should recognize that quality health care depends on the ability to work well with others.
Professional integrity in the health science industry is dependent on acceptance of ethical and legal responsibilities. Students are expected to employ their ethical and legal responsibilities, recognize limitations, and understand the implications of their actions.
