My name is Laura Boswell, and I am the EXPO specialist for Hawk Elementary.
I grew up in Denton and attended Newton Rayzor Elementary, Strickland Junior High, and Denton High School. I received both my Bachelor's of Science degree in Education and my Master's Degree in Elementary Education from UNT.
I taught at Ginnings Elementary in Denton ISD for 19 years. I taught fourth grade, fifth grade, and kindergarten before moving to EXPO. I was the Ginnings' EXPO specialist for four years before moving to Hawk Elementary when it opened in 2005. This will be my 40th year with the district, and my 25th year as a gifted and talented specialist.
I am certified in Elementary (1st through 8th), English (1st through 8th), Early Childhood, and Gifted Education.
I am married to Doug, who also grew up in Denton. Our fur-baby is a black and white Lhasa Apso named Sweetie Pie. She loves chasing squeaky tennis balls, but her mouth is so small that we have to get miniature ones. She must be a magician because she seems to produce them out of thin air! Mr. Boswell insists that she must have the television on when she is alone, and it must be tuned to the old Perry Mason show. Apparently, my dog only likes black and white television!
My favorite past time is to read, of course! I mostly read science-fiction and fantasy authors but will mix in mysteries and young adult novels. I enjoy classic movies, especially ones from the 1930's and 1940's. I also have a tendency to binge watch television shows. This summer it was all British mysteries and crime dramas.
Sadly, I do not have a green thumb and cannot keep plants alive. The EXPO students learn early that all the plants in the EXPO room are silk. NEVER give me a live plant! I can just look at it, and it will die!
We have a class Amazon wish list at: Hawk EXPO Amazon Wish List.
