HOCO Cleanup
Help clean up after the carnival!
Thurs, Sept 30
Clothing Drive
To help struggling families, we will have a clothing drive during the month of October (starting Monday, Oct 3, and ending Monday, Oct 31….the month of October, see?)
NEHS Common Reader Scholarship
Prompts are released on Nov 1. Join us to brainstorm some topics or ideas.
10 points per book brought in
Now through Thursday 11/21
Bring a book to Mr. Coleman's room, C-108. Donations should be new books or very gently used.
Project Adoption is Dec 4 during A2. NEHS would like to ensure that every student in the Project Adoption has at least one new book.
Books should be picture books and can be in English or Spanish. Literacy in a kid's "home" language helps develop language skills and acquisition.
Members with a bit of drive might go and ask for donations from local business either for books or for money to purchase books. If you are planning to do this, please coordinate with Mr. Coleman so we don't overlap (asking the same Walmart five different time, for example).
These are due before Thanksgiving break, 11/21 so that we can ensure they are distributed by the day of Project Adoption.
10 points per hat brought in (a max of 30 points--more hats are welcome)
Now through Thursday 11/21
Bring in a new winter hat to keep a head warm (not a baseball cap)--one that covers the ears--something LIKE the hats at right (ignore the model's goofy look). Other warm hats are okay, too. Men's hats are preferred.
We will get them to SADD (Students Against Destructive Decisions) who will count, sort, and send them on to the Salvation Army Shelter.
Bring them to Mr. Coleman's room, C-108 by Thurs, Nov. 21
3 points per can brought in (a maximum of 15 points--more cans are welcome)
Now through Friday, 11/15
Collect from others, ask businesses for donations, or bring from home. Please bring basic items (soups, green beans, corn, etc.)
Drop off in Coleman's room

Mr. Jensen has been meeting with many of the residents to decide what would benefit them most and they decided a toy drive for the children would mean the most due to the fact that they will not be able to use their resources for Christmas this year.
There are literally hundreds of families in need so they requested a general toy drive for all age ranges. They will be holding a holiday Santa house in December in the city of Shepherd and will gift toys to every child that arrives. The residents of Shepherd, Cold Springs, and Livingston will also be contributing to the drive so they anticipate more than one gift for every child that attends.
