GUYERCROSS Team Expectations
GUYERCROSS Cross Country Expectations - 2023
Adhere to the cornerstones of the GUYERCROSS program to the best of your ability.
Be committed to yourself, your coaches, and your teammates.
Be consistent in all that you do (effort, attitude, attendance, etc.)
Be a person of high character in the classroom, in competition and in the community.
Be a competitor! Strive to reach your potential as a runner.
Be prepared for workout every day:
Dress according to weather conditions.
Athletes must have a watch (does not have to be GPS)
Smart Phones, headphones, etc. are not permitted during practice.
Maintain good training procedures including: proper nutrition, hydration, rest and injury management.
Report ALL injuries to Coach Phelps for referral to the trainers. You need to let Coach Phelps and the trainers know you are injured before you go to the doctor.
Attend and participate in all practices and meets including those scheduled on school holidays. Athletes are not excused for work, hair appointments, etc. -- if an athlete is at school but not at practice, the athlete’s grade will be docked and participation at meets could be affected. If you do miss a workout for any reason, you must text ((903) 343 - 7899) or email Coach Phelps (tphelps@dentonisd.org) explaining the reason prior to the absence.
Doctor’s appointments should be made after school (not during cross country practice).
Report to practices and meets on time. Being late is unacceptable and will have consequences.
Athletes are required to pass all classes. If an athlete fails 2 consecutive grading periods, they can be removed from the cross country program.
Athletes that need to attend tutorials should attend after school -- if there is an unavoidable tutoring conflict, Coach Phelps should be notified in advance and arrangements will need to be made to make up the workout session.
Athletes should demonstrate exceptional behavior in the classroom as well as in the athletic realm. There will be athletic consequences for misconduct in the classroom and repeated occurrences can lead to dismissal from the cross country program.
Properly care for all equipment loaned to athletes. Missing or destroyed equipment will have to be paid for by the athlete.
It is the responsibility of each athlete to keep his/her gear and personal items locked in his/her locker. Absolutely no horseplay in the locker rooms.
All student athletes will adhere to the DISD Code of Conduct regarding drugs, alcohol, tobacco, etc.
Failure to meet the team expectations may result in disciplinary action including suspension from meets and/or removal from the team. Coach Phelps reserves the right to suspend any team member for any action he considers inappropriate or detrimental to the team.
If a team member has a conflict with any other school activity, the athlete, the school sponsor for that activity and Coach Phelps will discuss the situation and come up with a compromise. If there is a conflict with an outside school activity, Cross Country will take priority. Coach Phelps will make the final decision as it affects the Cross Country program.
