What is EXPO?
It is Denton ISD's program for Gifted and Talented Students. It stands for EXceptional POtential.
Gifted and talented refers to a child who: performs or shows the potential of performing at a remarkably high level of accomplishment when compared to others of the same age, experience, or environment. The child also exhibits an unusual capacity for leadership or high-performance capability in an intellectual, creative, or artistic area. These students require educational experiences beyond those normally provided by the regular school program. Students shall be identified through the use of multiple criteria as specified by the Denton Independent School District.
How are the Gifted Students selected?
Nominations/Referrals are solicited from a variety of sources. Teachers, principals, counselors, and parents are various ways students may be nominated/referred for the EXPO Program. Students must meet specific criteria which include objective and subjective measurements. Final placement for the EXPO program is determined by a series of tests and a district committee.

What do students do in EXPO?
Develop Thinking Strategies through:
Logic activities
Creative exercises
In-depth unit studies
Independent research
Robotics, coding, and STEM/STEAM activities
Play games (strategy, creativity, sportsmanship) and more.
