My name is Mrs. Yvonne Gentry, and I will be your child's reading teacher for the 2024-2025 school year. I cannot tell you how excited I am to be a part of your student's third-grade learning experience. It's going to be a fun year, full of lots of learning and plenty of adventures!
I was born and raised in El Paso, Texas, alongside my parents and two younger brothers. I graduated from the University of North Texas at El Paso (also known as UTEP). This marks my 32nd year in education. I have taught various grade levels during that time, including first, second, third, fourth, and sixth grade. I have received two awards that I am incredibly proud of during my career. In 2009, I was selected as Savannah Elementary's Teacher of the Year, and in 2020 I received the Hawkeye Reading Teacher Award.
I have been married to my husband, Max, for 31 years. We have a beautiful daughter named Staci, who recently finished her master's degree at the University of North Texas. This fall she will begin her career as an adjunct professor at UNT. Our household also consists of two spoiled rescue dogs, Olive and Summer, who love to play and cuddle. As a family, we love going for walks, traveling to new places, watching movies, and enjoying each other's company.
Teaching has always been my greatest passion. When I look at my students, I see endless possibilities. In my class, we will start each day with a smile and work hard until the day is done.
I'm looking forward to a great year, and I can't wait to meet you and your third grader.
