Course Description
Human Services is designed to introduce students to careers in the human services career cluster; which include counseling and mental health, early childhood development, family and community, and personal care services. Each student will gain knowledge & develop skills for success in high-skill, high-wage, or high-demand human services careers.
Course Requirements
Device that has Google Drive (must have the ability to add additional apps when
needed for class) If you do not have a device, one can be loaned to you while you are in class
when available.

Composition book
Choose 2 of the following: box of tissues, clorox wipes, hand sanitizer, map pencils, or markers
Grading
Pursuant to Denton ISD’s grading policy all grades for the course will be reflective of mastery
of Texas Essential Knowledge and Skills (TEKS). Students and parents may access the TEKS

Grades will be in one of two categories: major assessments and minor assessments. Major
assessments consist of tests, projects, and presentations that are designed to evaluate
understanding. Minor assessments will consist of developmental assignments that check for
understanding of a smaller set of learning objectives; examples include worksheets, quizzes,
writing prompts, and classroom/on-line activities.
Major Assessments: 60% of final nine weeks grade
Minor Assessments: 40% of final nine weeks grade
Reassessment Opportunities Must Be Earned By Meeting The Following Criteria:
• A “Request to Reassess” form must be submitted to the teacher by the student.
• All late work tied to the assessment must be completed and mastery demonstrated in order to
earn reassessment.
• The reassessment must be completed within ten school days of the primary assessment.
• One opportunity for reassessment will be provided.
• Reassessment will be worth full credit.
Classroom Expectations
MAKE-UP WORK:
• It will be the student's responsibility to see that makeup work is completed within the
specified timeframe.
CLASSROOM MANAGEMENT:
• Be respectful of the teacher and students in the class and on-line.
• All policies in the STUDENT HANDBOOK will be followed.
• Be on time to class with the needed supplies.
• Cell Phones or any other electronic devices may not be used during instructional time
(lectures, videos, and activities) or testing unless authorized by the teacher.
• Students will be held responsible for equipment and furniture at their workstation.
• Remain in your seat until you are dismissed at the end of the class.
• When leaving class, clean the work area and throw away trash.
Classroom Conduct and Consequences:
Tardies: 3 tardies will result in a detention and an email to the guardian. Failure to serve detention will result in a second detention. Every 3 detentions will be an office referral.
Daily classroom misbehavior: Every 3 warnings will result in a detention and an email to the guardian. Failure to serve detention will result in a second detention. Every 3 detentions will be an office referral.
Cell Phones: Every 3 warnings will result in a detention and an email to the guardian. Failure to serve detention will result in a second detention. After 3 detentions the phone will be taken to the office.
Some mis-behaviors will result in automatic detention or office referral. Discretion up to the teacher.

Classes are for 7th or 8th grade students
Must pass the class with a 70% or above
90% attendance in class for semester
Students will earn 1 high school elective credit towards high school graduation
Students may not take the same class twice.
