Let me tell you a little about me. My name is Denise Stephens, and I was born and raised in Denton. I began singing at the age of 5, and have loved it ever since. I joined choir in the 5th grade at Woodrow Wilson Elementary School. I continued participating in choir at both Strickland MS and Denton HS. While there, I was a consistent member of All-District, All-Region, and All- State choirs, and placed 1st at the National Association of Teacher's of Singing (NATS) eight times. My proudest high school memory is when I had the opportunity to sing that National Anthem (all by myself) in front of my graduating class, friends, and teachers at commencement. After graduating, I attended Baylor University, where I received my bachelor's degree in vocal performance, and the Thomas Stuart Award in Vocal Excellence. In addition to my studies, traveling and performing were my top priorities. I sang principal roles in several operas, and performed in exciting places like Austria, the Czech Republic, and Hungary. I began my teaching career in the Denton Public Schools in 1997 at Ryan High School, and currently teach at Calhoun Middle School. Since returning to Denton, I have appeared on Daystar and Fox 4 KDFW's television networks, as well as on KRNB 105.7. After graduating, I performed the role of "Queen of the Night" in Mozart's Die Zauberflote with UNT and the role of BJ in Smokey Joe's Cafe with Denton Community Theatre, and was an opening act for Josh Groban, Regina Belle and gospel greats Yolanda Adams and Vickie Winans. Most recently, I had the opportunity to accompany the Navo Middle School Treble Choir in concert at the prestigious Carnegie Hall in New York City.
In my spare time, I perform with various groups throughout Dallas and Ft. Worth, and enjoy spending time with my daughter, Jennifer, whom I adopted in November 2016. I am "Glamma" to three grand boys and DD to one adorable nephew.
