Denton ISD Middle School Planning Guide
HONORS COURSES PROGRAM INFORMATION
Any student who selects Athletics must complete all RANK ONE SPORT paperwork including a physical evaluation. If there is a medical physical on file with 7th grade Athletics, an 8th grade physical is not required- although the RANK ONE SPORT paperwork still is.
Current 5th grade students:
*The Cheek counselors will be offering a Course Selection Information Night for Parents of
current 5th graders on Monday, February 10 at 6:30pm in the Cheek Middle School Cafeteria.
Current 5th graders that will be going into 6th grade; Cheek Counselor will go to their current campus and give students course selections sheets to complete there.
-Martinez Elementary: February 13 @ 8am
-Sandbrock Ranch Elementary: February 18 @ 8:30am
-Union Park: February 19 @ 8:30am
-Savannah Elementary: February 21 @ 9:00am
-Paloma Creek Elementary: February 25 @ 9:00am
Rising to 6th grade Course Selection Sheet 2025-2026
Current 6th graders:
-January 16 and January 21 Course Selection will be completed during Science class.

- January 13 and January 15 Course Selection will be completed during Science class.
Rising to 8th grade 2025-2026 Course Card

*The Braswell counselors will be offering a Transition Night for Parents of
current 8th graders on Monday, January 22 at 6:30pm at Braswell High School Auditorium.

Course Card BHS 2025-2026
Denton ISD Course Selection Information:
-During course selection , students will be selecting courses electronically using Home Access enter (HAC). (Going into 7th & 8th grade)
-Students will use the course cards as a guide.
-All middle school students are required to complete 2 years of PE courses.
-All middle school students are required to complete 1 year of Fine Arts course.
-All middle school student are required to take ELAR (English Language Arts/Reading), Math, Science, and Social Studies each year.
-Students who were not successful with STAAR testing, are required to take an Intervention course. ELAR Intervention & Math Intervention takes place of an elective. Intervention is mandatory through House Bill 4545 .
-Honors Classes are available for 7th and 8th graders. Math 6 honors is available for 6th graders.
-Students in EXPO will be placed in EXPO ELAR.
-Placement in Dyslexia will take place of an elective.
-Students who request Math Honors 7, Algebra, or Geometry must meet certain criteria in order to be placed in the course.
