From the director:
I grew up in Austin, Tx (the live music capitol of the world). My family has deep roots in music and music education. My parents started me off with piano lessons when I was just 5 years old, and I continued until I was 12 when I began playing the electric bass. Choir also started at this time, the first choir I ever sang in was my 6th grade choir. I continued pursuing voice and electric bass throughout middle school and high school. The experiences I gained playing in the jazz band, singing in choir, performing in show choir and musical theatre are what led me to be a music educator. One day during my junior year of high school my director asked for me to lead the class while he was away and I was hooked from there. While attending the University of North Texas I continued with my pursuit of choral singing, performing in rock bands and singing barbershop. My first job was at a middle school in Dallas called Robert T. Hill. While I can honestly say that I did not expect to teach middle school (I had originally thought I would teach high school), I am happy to report that middle school choir is where I want to be. This age group has its challenges, but they are also full of talent and a passion for music making. My goal with anything I do in music is simple, pursue excellence and have fun doing it! At Crownover, our mission is "Meeting students where they are and leading them to the next level through harmony and kindness". When a student enters my classroom, I want them to feel welcomed, to be kind to one another and to have fun learning about music through different lenses.
