Mrs. BROWN’s Class

2022-2023

Absences

If your child is absent from school, please report their absence through this link before 9:30 am.

Communication Between Home and School

Please feel free send me a dojo message me, e-mail me, or send a note if you have any questions or concerns. My email address is hbrown3@dentonisd.org. My phone number at school is (940) 369-3641. If you call during the school day, you will most likely get my voicemail. Please leave a message and I will call you when I am able.

Conferences

You are welcome to schedule a conference with me at any time. Just send a message through class dojo to schedule a conference either before school, after school, or during my conference time (Monday –Friday 12:10-1:00).

Early Arrival

Class begins at 7:40 a.m. Children who arrive between 7:10 a.m.and 7:30 a.m. will wait in the cafeteria. Students may come to the classroom at 7:30 a.m. If you drop off your child at the classroom, please stop at the door. I would like the students to be responsible for their morning duties. It is hard to let our children grow up, but they are so capable and excited about being at school. Saying your goodbyes at the door will help your child achieve the independence they need to have a successful year!

Tardies

The tardy bell rings at 7:40 a.m. Your child is counted tardy if he or she arrives to class after 7:40. Please make sure that your child is at school on time. Good habits begin early! When you child is late, he or she misses out on important announcements and instructional time.

Lunch

  • You are welcome to join your child for lunch. Please meet us in the cafeteria at 10:40. You can purchase the cafeteria food or bring in lunch for you and your child. Please do not provide lunch for any child other than your own.

  • Please put money on your child’s account at www.schoolcafe.com (You will need your child’s school ID #).

  • There will not be free breakfast or lunch this year. To apply for free or reduced lunch please visit https://www.dentonisd.org/childnutrition.

Transportation

If there is a change in the way your child goes home from school, a message on class dojo or a note in your child’s folder is the best way to let me know. If a change occurs during the school day, the office must be notified by phone (940-369-3600) by 1:50 p.m. to notify us of the change. This protects your child and the school. It puts the teacher in a very difficult position when a kindergartner insists that he or she is supposed to go home a different way than previously arranged.

Clothing

  • Please consider how challenging clothing can be to fasten and unfasten when you select attire for school. Your child should be able to remove clothing to go to the restroom independently and quickly.

  • Children are expected to wear tennis shoes for P.E. Our P.E. days are Wednesday and Friday and we alternate specials on Mondays so I would suggest that students also wear tennis shoes on Mondays.

  • Even if your child has never had an accident, we recommend a complete change of clothes be labeled with your child's name and kept in a Ziploc bag in your child's backpack.

Birthday Celebrations

We are not allowed to have birthday parties at school. You may send a small snack for the class with your child on his or her birthday which we will have at snack time. Please do not send drinks or whole cakes. If your child wants to pass out birthday party invitations at school, it is a school policy that every child in the class must receive one.

Report Cards

Report cards will be available at the end of the marking period on HAC.

Book Orders

I will be sending Scholastic Book Orders home every couple of months. Scholastic offers great books at good prices. If you choose to order books, you have the option of writing a check to Scholastic Book Clubs or placing the order on-line. I am not allowed to accept cash. I will usually give students a week to turn in orders. It will then take about a week for the order to arrive at the school.

Money

Money will occasionally be requested for field trips, parties, and special activities. You will also have opportunities during the year to participate in fund raisers, to purchase pictures, etc. Please send any money in a sealed envelope labeled with your child’s name and the teacher’s name.

PTA

Our PTA does wonderful things for our school! I hope that everyone will join the PTA this year to support our school.
