I am Dr. Anna Seibert and I teach 3 upper level science courses: AP/DC Chemistry, AP/DC Biology, and AP Environmental Science. I am also co-sponsor for NHS, Science NHS, and Science UIL and I'm the Braswell Academic UIL Coordinator (YOU SHOULD JOIN!).
A little about myself: I earned a bachelor's degree in chemistry at the University of Cincinnati (Ohio). I began my molecular biology journey at the College of Medicine at the same university. I moved to Buffalo to follow my adviser to the University of Buffalo & I completed my doctorate of philosophy (PhD) in biochemistry under his guidance there in upstate New York. We studied a protein from the Giant Green Sea Anemone Anthopleura xanthogrammica. We mutated it and harvested it from E. coli and studied its effects on voltage gated sodium channels. We were hoping to design a drug that would help people with failing hearts, but we were not able to make it specific enough to work only on cardiac cells. What all this means is that I love science and I love asking questions and I hope you do too!
Since my time as a researcher, we moved to Kentucky where I became a SAHM for my 3 sons (who are now freshman, junior and senior in college) with my loving husband, our helpful pups, Apollo, Ace, and Sasha, and our class pets Lizardo, Lizzie - the lizards, Bethany the Beta fish, and the tank of Roly Polies). After all 3 boys had entered elementary school back in Kentucky, I started teaching General Chemistry and Organic Chemistry at Northern Kentucky University until we moved to the North Texas area 10 years ago. Upon relocating here, I earned my teacher's certificate and have since taught all levels of chemistry and biology. This is my 8th year at Braswell. We love to travel (tell me about where you've been & help me plan my next trip!). My kids keep me pretty busy, but when I do manage to squeeze in free time, you will likely find me in my yard gardening, reading a good book, taking pictures of something in nature, or sewing a new creation.
All class-related information will be found on your Class Canvas page. I keep a close check on my email throughout the day, so if you have any questions, make sure to ask: aseibert@dentonisd.org
