We have officially established a food assistance program at Savannah through Lovepacs! This program will allow students who qualify for free/reduced lunch to receive food over weekends and holiday breaks (see attached flier for info!). Students that received weekend food bags last year will need to be re-enrolled to continue receiving them this year. If you are interested in enrolling your student(s) in our Lovepacs program or your family is interested in receiving holiday gift assistance, please fill out the Lovepacs for Savannah Community.
Lastly, Harvest Ministries has a monthly Mobile Food Distribution program, and the first date of the school year is Saturday, September 20th at Braswell High School!
Here is a link to fill out their form to schedule a pickup time.

Your child is about to begin exploring addition and subtraction of whole numbers with models. To master this skill, they will build on their knowledge of addition and subtraction from second grade. In second grade, your child learned addition and subtraction using concrete and pictorial models and setting up equations with the use of the equals sign.
BUILDING A READING LIFE:
Our unit focus in reading will be getting to know characters in our fiction stories, learning about making predictions, analyzing author's craft, and identifying the theme in our books. We will study the characteristics of fiction books to help us learn the way stories typically go.
This week, we are assessing all Unit 1 skills: predicting, paraphrasing stories in sequential order, analyzing the author, and determining point of view.
CRAFTING TRUE STORIES:
Our unit focus in writing will be noticing ideas for stories from their everyday lives. We will draft personal narratives based on small moments in their lives.
This week, we are continuing practicing the writing process. We created a collection of personal narrative topics. We will choose one to write a new personal narrative that includes all the learning we will do in the upcoming weeks.
UNIT 1:
Our pattern for this week is long O & U vowel sounds. This week, we are focusing on patterns that make long O and U such as: float, broken, obey, tomorrow, few, united, continue, contribute
Our HFW focus words for this week are: new and because
We have challenged them to spell at LEAST 50 total words correct for this 9 weeks!
In this 3rd grade science unit we will learn how decisions can be made about objects and changing objects based on their physical properties. We will also conduct scientific inquiry using process skills to find and answer interesting questions. Through this, students will have a better understanding of how the world around them works!
