We have officially established a food assistance program at Savannah through Lovepacs! This program will allow students who qualify for free/reduced lunch to receive food over weekends and holiday breaks (see attached flier for info!). Students that received weekend food bags last year will need to be re-enrolled to continue receiving them this year. If you are interested in enrolling your student(s) in our Lovepacs program or your family is interested in receiving holiday gift assistance, please fill out the Lovepacs for Savannah Community.
Lastly, Harvest Ministries has a monthly Mobile Food Distribution program, and the first date of the school year is Saturday, September 20th at Braswell High School!

BUILDING A READING LIFE:
Our unit develops a rich life of nonfiction reading along with the skills to do that reading well. It iss crucial for us to prepare our students on how to do that type of reading with strong comprehension. Our focuses are: main idea, text structures, key information, supporting details, and retell.
This week, we are closing out Unit 2. Students will have a unit assessment determining mastery of 3 essential skills: main idea/detail, narrative nonfiction retell, and inferences.
THE ART OF INFORMATION WRITING:
Our unit focuses on writing informational text or books on things they are an expert on or know a lot about. We will brainstorm our expert topics. We will choose one to write a nonfiction book that includes all the learning we will do in the upcoming weeks.
This week, we are in the revise and edit steps of the writing process.
UNIT 3:
Our pattern for this week is r-controlled vowels. This week, we are focusing on words that use er, ir, ur in their spelling. Our spelling words are: circus, summer, serve, occur, return, thirteen, dangerous, caterpillar
Our HFW focus words for this week are: know & light
We have challenged them to spell at LEAST 60 total words correct for this 9 weeks!
In this 3rd grade science unit we will be able to effectively solve problems using the design process, as well as inquire about and understand everyday phenomena related to forces and energy.
