3rd Grade Power Passes
Power passes allow students who earn them special privileges at school. Some privileges include being first to go out to recess, being first to line up for lunch, bringing special (approved) items to school, and more. This is a positive incentive to encourage students to meet expectations!

We have officially established a food assistance program at Savannah through Lovepacs! This program will allow students who qualify for free/reduced lunch to receive food over weekends and holiday breaks (see attached flier for info!). Students that received weekend food bags last year will need to be re-enrolled to continue receiving them this year. If you are interested in enrolling your student(s) in our Lovepacs program or your family is interested in receiving holiday gift assistance, please fill out the Lovepacs for Savannah Community.
Lastly, Harvest Ministries has a monthly Mobile Food Distribution program, and the first date of the school year is Saturday, September 20th at Braswell High School!
Here is a link to fill out their form to schedule a pickup time.

This nine weeks your students will explore numbers within 100,000. Students will understand that digits have different values based on their placement within a number. They will develop number sense by using pictorial models to compose and decompose numbers. Students will be able to describe and compare numbers using place value, skip counting and begin working with estimation and compatible numbers.
BUILDING A READING LIFE:
Our unit focus in reading will be getting to know characters in our fiction stories, learning about making predictions, analyzing author's craft, and identifying the theme in our books. We will study the characteristics of fiction books to help us learn the way stories typically go.
This week, we are analyzing the author's choices (craft) and how they influence a variety of texts. More specifically, we are working on author's purpose and message this week by determining why the author wrote a particular story or why the author chose certain graphics/illustrations to complement their writing.
CRAFTING TRUE STORIES:
Our unit focus in writing will be noticing ideas for stories from their everyday lives. We will draft personal narratives based on small moments in their lives.
This week, we are continuing practicing the writing process. We are brainstorming special moments and "writing up a storm" with our drafts. The reading to writing connection is applying author's purpose reading skill to develop their purpose in writing to guide their narratives.
LAUNCH UNIT:
Our pattern for the next 2 weeks are prefixes un- and re-. This week, we are focusing on this unit's high frequency words (HFW). HFWs are words that are used most frequently. Students should be able to read and spell these words.
We have challenged them to spell at LEAST 50 total words correct for this 9 weeks!
In this 3rd grade science unit we will learn how decisions can be made about objects and changing objects based on their physical properties. We will also conduct scientific inquiry using process skills to find and answer interesting questions. Through this, students will have a better understanding of how the world around them works!
