Emergent Bilingual learners can practice answering TELPAS and STAAR questions on the TexasAssessment.gov website. It is important to review the assessment features with your Emergent Bilingual learners in order to ensure that they are successful during state assessments.
Bilingual and Emergent Bilingual learners are consistently underrepresented in gifted and talented classrooms. In this course, you will explore the importance of advocating for bilingual and English learners during the referral, identification, and programming process. This course will provide you with the tools to support both identified and "hidden' advanced learners.

Draw and Tell is a creative tool that allows learners to draw, write, and narrate stories and other work.
Ms. Bradenburg, Kinder teacher at DCE, excels at utilizing number talks in order to increase oral language and critical thinking skills.
Ms. Keen, ELA teacher at CMS North, provides content specific sentence stems in order to support her Emergent Bilingual learners with writing a theme literary analysis.
On Friday ,January 31, over 50 Newcomer parents took part in the CISD ESL/BIL Newcomer Bus Tour! Some had enrolled in CISD in the previous week or since winter break!
Greeted first by Dr. Hunt at the CHS Lecture Hall, the tour continued with an awesome group photo on the stadium field. Next, participants met Mayor Wes Mays at Town Hall then enjoyed a behind-the-scenes tour of Cozby Library.
The afternoon was spent enjoying a short hike at the Biodiversity Center, including information on how families can enjoy the facility and Nature Center year-round. The day ended with a fabulous tour of the Life Safety Park, including safety and security orientations by the LSP and the Coppell Police Department's School Resource Officers.
The purpose of the event is to introduce new Coppell ISD emergent bilingual families to area leadership and to share opportunities for family engagement activities. Guides for the tour were Language Acquisition Specialists from CISD campuses and the ESL/Bilingual Programs Department.
On Tuesday, February 11, 34 Juniors & Seniors joined the CHS Latina Leadership Club for a college visit to UNT. The ladies toured academic buildings, the student union building, cafeterias, intramural buildings, and interesting sites around campus.
Lunch at the Bruce Hall Cafeteria (“Bruceteria”) was sponsored by Isabelle Garcia, State Farm Insurance of Coppell.
The UNT Welcome Center then provided a presentation on applications to UNT: scholarships, financial aid, deadlines, options for residence, hours, working on campus, and family engagement in the college decision process.
