Connecting Learners with Our Educators

Michael Yakubovsky’s STEM learners completed a project where they interviewed educators from other campuses to discover needs. Learners designed solutions through 3-D printing inventions.


Connecting with Parents

Suzanne Paylor, high school Health Science educator, uses Flipgrid to bring parents into the conversations happening in her classroom. For example, parents weighed in on health care issues and systems they had experienced in our countries.

Connecting Former Learners with Current Learners

Ian Vanderschee, high school mathematics educator, hosted a Skype session with over 40 of his learners that have already graduated. He included a Q/A session for his current learners to hear what graduates said about college and preparing for college. Read more about it here.

Connecting Across the District

High school Robotics educator, Pilar Castro-Zena, has teamed up with several elementary educators on a lesson involving the engineer's design process. Her learners acted as mentors for first graders going through the design process to create toys using force and motion. Kindergarteners provided feedback on toy prototypes designed by high school learners. Read more about it here.

Connecting with Another District

Sr. Mares, high school Spanish educator, challenged his learners to create Earth Day children's books with a target audience of Spanish speaking fourth graders in mind. Sr. Mares connected with a fourth grade dual language educator in another city. Her learners read the books, and then met with his learners through Google Hangouts. The high schoolers were able to practice authentic conversations in Spanish and received feedback on their books from the fourth graders. Read more about it here.

Connecting Learners with Educators Across the State

Becky Richards, high school Ready, Set, Teach educator, connected her learners to a live presentation at TCEA presented by Sunny Richardson and Monica Champagne. Learners had the opportunity to ask session participants questions about technology's effect on the teaching profession.

Connecting Globally Through Flipgrid

Jodie Deinhammer connects her middle school Science learners with schools around the world to learn more about the water crisis and compare local water sources. Read more about her project here.

Connecting with Industry

Monica Champagne used Google Hangouts to connect her Multimedia learners with Media professionals. They conducted guess the career mystery hangouts 20 questions style.

Connecting Globally Through Blogging

Tracy Henson’s AP English 3 learners kept blogs related to causes that are dear to their hearts. The public blog tracks the learners’ journeys through research to fund raising. Example

Lauren Scruggs' 5th grade math/science learners use blogging to teach reflection and giving critical constructive feedback. Example

Hillary Brown's 5th grade learners reflect on their science lessons through blogs. Example

Laronna Doggett uses blogging as a place for her high school learners to discuss important content topics. Example 1 . Her learners also maintained all of the school’s aquariums and blogged their maintenance notes. Example 2

Connecting Learners with Places Around the World

English 1 educators, Jessica Lynch and Ashton Wright immersed their learners in various cultural environments virtually through Google Expeditions. Read more about it here.

Educators Connecting with Educators Across the Globe

Coppell Digital Learning Coaches hosted a webinar that connected our educators with educators at Surana School in Chennai, India. Surana School leaders shared with our district how they use yoga and meditation in the classroom for stress management.

Connecting Globally through Google Hangouts

Sam Neal's English 2 learner, Becky, connected her class with Liberty in North Korea, a campus extension of the global LiNK organization to bring the current relevance of the novel Animal Farm to new light. Read the details on how the connections was formed and the lesson details here.

Creating ongoing connections with classrooms around the world.

Kelly Fischer, a second grade teacher, found connections on Twitter. She used second grade and Mystery Skype hashtags to promote her request and received responses from classes around the world. She has stayed in touch with this group of educators, connecting their new classes each year. Read more about this experience here.
