Effective with the 2018 May/June CBE Test Administration, the five EOC-related CBEs (Algebra I, English I, English II, U.S. History, and Biology) may now be taken for acceleration without prior instruction using tests provided by the University of Texas.

As with all CBEs, please visit the University of Texas (UT) Credit by Exam website to view Credit by Exam study guides. The study guides will indicate prerequisite reading to complete prior to testing and provide information about the CBE your child will take. Obtaining study materials and preparing for a CBE is the sole responsibility of the parent and/or student.

A student must earn credit for one course/grade level as a prerequisite to attempt Credit by Exam for the next course/grade level. For example, a learner must earn credit for Spanish I either by CBE or course completion before s/he can attempt the CBE for Spanish 2. As another illustration, a learner in 3rd grade who wants to accelerate through 4th grade must first finish 3rd grade to take the 4th grade acceleration test. However, a learner may take a CBE during the May testing window for the next course/grade level, if s/he is projected to meet the end-of-the year passing requirements for the current course/grade level.
