Welcome to the SES remote learning page. We have created this in an effort to provide a user-friendly platform to support our students and families as they navigate our online learning program. Please take some time with your student to familiarize yourselves with the information below, as well as the grade level pages on the tabs above. Our goal is to support this partnership between our campus and home families to ensure our students success. Even though we can't be together, we are certainly still connected.
ONCE A STAR, ALWAYS A STAR.
For the 2020-21 school year, we’ve created a more secure environment for our digital resources. This year we will be using ClassLink, which will allow students to quickly access a variety of digital resources with one login. We will be utilizing Seesaw as our learning management system. Check out these tutorials for our most-used sites below!
All Assignments, Assessments, and Grades will be the same for Remote and On-Campus learning. All graded assignments will be specified and explained by your child's teacher.
Per the TEA guidelines, attendance for students participating in Remote Learning can be tracked daily in the following ways:
Daily progress in the Seesaw, Google Classroom, or ECHO
Daily progress via teacher-student interactions
Submission of assignments from student to teacher
If you have any additional questions regarding these remote learning guidelines, visit the Comal ISD Parent Center website linked below.
We would love to support you and your child as you prepare your learning environment at home! Check out your grade level tab (above) for more specific suggestions about creating their learning space. Be sure to check out your grade level's schedule for more information about synchronous and asynchronous learning times! Below are some general tips to help your Remote Learner in their daily routine.
Plug in your device or be sure your device is charged.
Gather and set up materials.
Prepare a quiet work space for your learner to engage in Online lessons.
Check your Seesaw STUDENT and FAMILY Announcements for daily messages from your teacher!
Dear Parents,
Can you believe it has been a month since the winter storm? There is quite a bit happening as we rapidly approach the end of the year. Please let me know if you have questions!
03/31 is early release for all students at 1:05. If your child rides the bus, the bus arrival time will be two hours sooner than usual.
Friday 04/02 is a school holiday for all staff and students!
If your kinder or first grade student is going to start walking home tomorrow afternoon with a fifth grader, you must email your child's teacher and indicate the name of the fifth grade your child is walking with.
If your child walks in the morning, I have attached a map below so you can see where students should be going!
April menus are below.
Mr. Kim is buying Specht staff and students a shirt after all we have faced this year! Please keep an eye out for the survey coming on Thursday. If you don't complete the survey, your child will not receive a shirt. It's a free shirt after all! Our very own Mrs. Moss designed it, and it is awesome!!!!
Comal Reads starts April 9th. There is a message below the attachments from Mrs. Arnold telling you all about it!
I will be updating you on our Color Run progress on Thursday! As a reminder, we are splitting this fundraiser with PTA. Our campus goal is $25,000 which will net the school and PTA about $10,000 each. Whether your child is on campus or remote, all students benefit from these funds. We utilize the funds for classroom materials, online support program like Brain Pop, and a multitude of programs and campus efforts. We hope everyone who is financially able to contribute, will do so. I know some have opted to simply make a flat donation even though they don't plan to attend.
As always, we are grateful for your support!

Comal Reads message from Mrs. Arnold:
Dear Parents,
Our Comal Reads book for this year is Wishtree by Katherine Applegate.
We will begin reading this book as a district on April 9th. This is a great opportunity for you to engage in reading and discussing a great book with your family!
At the beginning of Comal Reads, I will be sending home a reading plan of how many pages you will read a night. It should be a fun opportunity for your family to share a book together.
I hope that you will join us in reading this book. To participate, you will simply need to obtain a copy through Amazon, Barnes and Noble, or another bookstore.
I hope that you will join us in reading this fantastic book!
Sincerely,
Stephanie Arnold, School Librarian
Below is a description of the book from Amazon:
Trees can't tell jokes, but they can certainly tell stories. . . .
Red is an oak tree who is many rings old. Red is the neighborhood "wishtree"―people write their wishes on pieces of cloth and tie them to Red's branches. Along with a crow named Bongo and other animals who seek refuge in Red's hollows, this wishtree watches over the neighborhood.
You might say Red has seen it all.
Until a new family moves in. Not everyone is welcoming, and Red's experience as a wishtree is more important than ever.
Funny, deep, warm, and nuanced, this is Katherine Applegate at her very best―writing from the heart, and from a completely unexpected point of view.
