My goal as a GT teacher is to recognize, challenge, and support my students within the gifted program. What does that mean?
Recognize- Gifted students often drum to their own beat and I want to help them recognize those differences as strengths and embrace their diverse individuality. This should be their safe space at school to explore all they have to offer the world.
Challenge- In this room, I want to provide students with the ability to construct their own knowledge that is intellectually, creatively, and personally challenged. I want them to have fun and feel free to explore topics that are of interest to them. But I also want that to be a challenge for them, to learn and grow through that struggle.
Support- I want my students to know that I am here to help them through their struggles. Be it here at school, with another student, in another class, or at home I can help them brainstorm ideas to help them deal with what is happening. So often because gifted students are intelligent, people assume they should be more mature and handle stress better but in reality, we are just regular middle school students. Here, we can lean on each other for support.
